Kevin is a drum and percussion teacher in Decatur, Georgia.

Hi! I’m Kevin. I am a drum teacher offering private drum lessons and percussion lessons in Decatur, GA.  I have been playing drums for 15 years and have been teaching percussion for 10 of those years.  I studied percussion and piano at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where I earned a B.A. in General Music.  I teach beginner to advanced drum students, making sure that the student is having fun and staying interested along the way!

Drum Lessons

My first private music instruction came from a drum teacher whose teaching approach was very rigid, focusing only on what they deemed important.  Little concern was given to my individual interests and needs.  That experience has made me very sensitive to the each student’s musical goals, while still being sure to provide them with strong fundamentals. I teach drums through a method that I have developed over 10 years of teaching. Necessary fundamentals are learned quickly and easily in a fun, low pressure environment.  Most students are playing along with songs that they enjoy within the first few weeks of lessons! I can also teach rudimental and concert snare drum and assorted percussion lessons.  I give lessons in students’ homes as well as in my personal studio.

Student Performances

Performance is a good supplement to piano lessons.

VillageFest is an annual concert for young performers hosted by DunwoodyMusic.net.

highly encourage my students to perform publicly in addition to taking drum lessons.  Performing in a group or for other people is as important as taking private lessons and practicing.  The nerves related to playing music in front of others are totally normal and take time to overcome.  The more often you get up and play music for people, the less your nerves get to you!  Even the most confident performers have moments of insecurity.  Music Lessons Decatur puts on concerts throughout the year in conjunction with www.dunwoodymusic.net.  These are great opportunities, so students are strongly encouraged to participate!  I will never force a student to perform if they are not comfortable.
